I was up at 5am and hiking by 5:25am. I stepped over another tarantula as I headed towards town. I was very excited to be getting to town so early, with a full day of rest in a private Airbnb trailer ahead of me. I made it to town by 10am. I was quickly able to get a nice hitch with the first car to drive by. I stopped for a soda at the market and then ordered a big breakfast burrito at the town’s breakfast cafe.
After that, I sat out front of the laundromat while my clothes washed, chatting with Kelcee who lives and works nearby. I then resupplied at the market, bought myself some dinner and breakfast supplies, and walked the 5 minutes to the RV Airbnb. I then relaxed inside for the rest of the day; the RV’s shower never got hot, but it was hot enough outside (90s) that a cold shower was fine if not exactly pleasant. It was so nice to just lay down on a soft surface for hours, with privacy and a stable internet connection. A restful day was exactly what I needed, going into one of the tougher sections of the entire AZT in a heatwave.
