Start/Finish: Wildcat Ski Area parking lot
Miles: 8.67
Elevation gain/loss: 3658
My friend Justin and I headed out at 6am, after some puzzling over how to cross the creek that is normally bridged by the ski area – they’re in the midst of construction. However, they’d gated the entrance to Lot B where the trailhead is, so we were stuck crossing the creek on foot; thankfully, a dry crossing was easy thanks to their pump moving water around the area.
We headed up Polecat and the standard uphill route, enjoying the gravel road that was mostly firm and unmuddy. We made the summit of Wildcat D for sunrise, and then headed over to Wildcat A; the rocks in between were wet and a bit slippery. The wind was gently blowing on the ridge so we kept moving to stay warm. Once we arrived back at Wildcat D, we jogged the downhill back to our cars.
