After sleeping at the dispersed camping area nearby the fish hatchery, I was up very early at 4am thanks to daylight savings ending, and hiking by 4:40am. The trail was drier than September and I made good time, despite doing the ascent in the dark. I was back at the trailhead before 8:30am, passing a dozen people just starting their hikes. I saw Jo at the trailhead and we chatted for a few minutes before she and her friend headed out.
