Summits: Hancock, South Hancock
Start/Finish: Hancock Overlook TH
Miles: 9.22
Elevation gain/loss: 2982′
With a wicked early start (5:30am) from the trailhead, I was decidedly the first person on the trail this morning. I made very quick time for the first and last 3 miles, with a moderate pace on the large uphill climb and the steep descent off South Hancock. The conditions were pretty good, with the water crossings being the only major challenge. The largest crossing was a bit difficult on the way across due to a sheet of ice across the surface that made it hard to see where the rocks were and the ice did not hold me. I slipped and dunked the toe of my boot but managed to stay mostly dry.
On my way back, I ran into Stephanie and a group of her friends! It was lovely to say ‘hey’ and talk about trail conditions and our plans! I made it back to the trailhead by 9:15am, where I changed clothes, had a snack, and headed up the road for my next hike.
