I met up with Eric at Pine Bend Brook to drop a car at 10:15am. We drove over to Olivarian TH to get started. We headed out by 10:30am and make good time on the first few miles before the ice on trail got more substantial. The steep climb up to Passaconaway was our slowest mile for the day, but then we were able to put down some faster miles later on. The trail over to Whiteface had less snow than we’d anticipated, and there were footprints to follow all the way over to the Tripyramids. Eric showed me a short bushwhack as an alternative to the traverse of the South Tripyramid slide, and that definitely spiced things up. The temperature went as low as 15 actual with some light wind bringing it into the single digits.
We made it over the last mountain and began our descent before dark. We made it out to Pine Bend Brook TH by 6:15pm, where we then drove back to pick up the other car at Olivarian TH.
