Summits: Carrigan
Start/Finish: Sawyer River Rd winter parking
Miles: 13.71
Elevation gain/loss: 3855′
With Sawyer River Rd closed due to storm damage, I got the last spot in the winter parking lot and started my road walk by 1:45pm. While a bit buggy in places, it was so wonderful to have low (by spring standards) water levels on the approach. I didn’t even get my feet wet, which felt like a miracle. There was a small 5-minute rain shower as I hit the ledges and started the final climb, but it had little impact. And from the summit platform, I even saw a rainbow!
I headed back down and enjoyed a quiet hike out, getting back to my car by 7:30pm. I then attempted to shower at Dry River Campground but there was a long line so I took a bird bath in the bathroom instead.
