Summits: Carrigan
Start/Finish: Sawyer River Rd winter parking
Miles: 13.6
Elevation gain/loss: 4698′
I headed out from the trailhead at 5:25am by headlamp. I hiked the road, and was able to wear spikes door to door. There was tons of drifted snow, but a solid packed base. It was 0 degrees actual and -30 windchill, with 40 MPH winds, at the summit. It was so cold it killed my phone, even in my pocket, and wouldn’t turn back on. My Garmin hung on at 7% after a bunch of pocket warming. After wheezing all night long, my lungs were not happy being thrust into the icy cold again. My bronchospasms were really intense and made breathing difficult. After a rough 6-hour round trip, I reset my gear and headed out for my 2nd hike of the day.
