Summits: Moriah
Start/Finish: Bangor St TH
Miles: 8.9
Elevation gain/loss: 4485′
Since I only had one peak for the day, I took my time getting started. I helped Eric spot a car for a Wildcats/Carter Dome traverse, and then got started up the trail by 8:30am. The trail was very firm after an intense midweek melt. Multiple people had severely postholed the trail, leaving 1-3′ holes which had frozen when the temperatures dropped. Due to intense wind (70 MPH gusts), there was a lot of drifted snow. This had covered the holes, making it treacherous to go very fast.
Up top, it was 8 degrees with -20 windchill, and even in the valley, it was 20 degrees actual/0 degrees windchill. I managed to stay warm and didn’t hurt myself, though I jarred my ankle and knee a few times on the descent. And just like that, I’m done with March and 96% done with my grid!
