Elevation gain/loss: 3134′

After a few days of overcast and snowy weather, it was nice to be rewarded with a beautiful bluebird kind of day. It was cold, single digits with windchill around -15 at the summit, but the sun made it worth it. The Carter Moriah trail was completely packed out and I wore microspikes door to door. The trip up was nice, though on the way back down I ran into three very lost snowmobilers in the middle of the trail. They’d wrecked at least a mile of nicely packed trail, and damaged some trees as well. I ran into a trail maintainer back at the parking lot, and let him know what had happened. He looked ready to spit nails and like he’d give them an earful if they happened to still be there when he walked by.
