We got up early and went through Gorham, grabbing coffee drinks and breakfast sandwiches on the way to the Cabot trailhead. As we got close to to the York East trailhead, we encountered two bull moose next to the road, and they kindly wandered in front of our stopped car!

We made it to the trailhead and headed out by 8am, taking advantage of a quiet and quick trail. We made it to Bunnell Rock before we encountered other people, and they were backpackers who had stayed the night at Unknown Pond. People caught up to us as we neared the cabin, where we stopped and had a nice snack break. After we made the Cabot summit, we decided to push forward and do the full loop, going over the summit of the Bulge and taking the side trail for the Horn. The views from the Horn were lovely, and we took our last snack break there.

We descended the Horn and passed by Unknown Pond, stopped to use the privy at the campsite there. Then it was all smooth sailing (and some wet trail) back down to the trailhead. Again, we were able to make it back to the campground with plenty of light, and we started to pack up camp, so we’d be ready to leave early the next morning.
