Start/end: Pine Bend Brook trailhead
Miles: 9.28
Elevation gain: 3451′
I parked my car in the Sabbaday Falls lot and the other 3 folks I was hiking with picked me up and we drove the mile down the road to the Pine Bend Brook trailhead. We weren’t certain if we could do the loop down Sabbaday, so we figured we’d have both options available to us with my car spotted (and the parking on the side of the road didn’t look promising for my front-wheel drive car). We hiked up Pine Bend Brook, up through the steep ravine and then up the long uphill section before the first Tripyramid summit. The trail was very well packed down, and we only needed spikes. On our way over towards the second summit, we passed by Sabbaday Falls trail, and while it looked like it had been hiked since the last snow storm, it would require snowshoes and I wasn’t confident about the 5 creek crossings we would have to get back to the car. So we decided that it would be best to just do an out-and-back. We dropped our backpacks by the trail intersection, summited the second peak, and then headed back down. We had some lovely fun butt sliding down the steep uphill section and into the ravine, and we made great time back to the cars.
