I rose early to get an early 6am start, set on getting home on the earlier side and also beating the incoming thunderstorms. I didn’t want to mix above treeline travel and potential lightening. I was the first parked car, and enjoyed my quiet start to the day. Before I started up the trails, I availed myself of the lodge’s downstairs bathroom. Then it was time for a nice long climb through the forest. I saw a group of 4 descending, probably folks from the lodge out for a sunrise hike. As I climbed higher, I moved into the clouds and saw a bit of snow in a melting monorail. Soon I popped up above treeline and headed up to the summit sign. The views were very limited, but I enjoyed what I could see. Then it was back down the mountain and back to my car, where I changed into clean, dry clothes before I started the 3-hour drive home.
