Start: I-5, Ashland
End: campsite near Siskiyou Gap
Miles: 16.1
Elevation gain/loss: 3839/2070
After 4 hours of sleep and a lot of airport shenanigans (in which Salt Lake City airport lost my bag, necessitating a hotel stay in Medford courtesy of Delta; I finally received my bag 14 hours late), I started hiking at 1:45pm from Old Highway 99 by I-5. I arrived at a campsite short of my original, full-day goal at 7:45pm, and shared it with one other tent.
I met Walkfar (NOBO OR/CA border to Canada), a couple doing OR/CA border to Bridge of the Gods, and a handful of NOBO thruhikers. After the thunderstorms rolled in later in the afternoon, I saw 4 tents set up. It always surprises me when folks out here avoid hiking in the rain. I guess it is possible since it rarely rains, but it still seems odd to me. I somehow managed to avoid being soaked and only got mist and very light rain, though the thunder and occasional lightening was very intimidating.
