Start: Bucks Lake
End: campsite 0.5mi SOBO from South Fork Spring
Miles: 33.7
Elevation gain/loss: 7480’/5689′
After a good night of sleep, I was up at 5:20 and on the road by 6:10am.
Around 10am, there were AmeriCorp volunteers working on widening the trail bed, which was much appreciated. I also managed to do 21 miles by 2pm.
I chatted with Miranda and Pharmacist at a small pooled trickle as we filtered, as well as Pickle and Renee earlier in the day. I also sat and chatted with Mix Tape and Stellar Jay (Celia) for a half hour.
I did quite a lot of climbing today, and it was mostly in a very burned area so there was no shade and it was in the heat of the day. This made my water requirements much higher, but I anticipated it and carried enough water. Towards the tail end of my day, people told me about soda trail magic at a road crossing. When I got there, they’d packed it up. I felt bold/thirsty so I went and asked, and they gave me a soda. This gave me fuel to knock about another few miles. I found a nice spot with cell service to cowboy camp and watch the sunset.
