Start/End: Mailbox Peak upper trailhead
Miles: 7.9
Elevation gain/loss: 3812′
After wrapping up my day of work, I headed out to the trailhead to meet up with my coach, Joe McConaughy. We decided to go up the steep old trail and then descend by the switchbacks of the new trail. It was in the mid-80s when we started, and it was a brutal ascent. We made the summit in perhaps 90 minutes, with my legs burning and my shorts completely saturated with my sweat. We enjoyed some beautiful views, only partially blocked by smoke, and then headed back down, running on the smoother and less steep trail.
At the trailhead, we chatted for a few minutes before Joe headed back to Seattle. It was a solid effort, particularly after such a big weekend!
