Start/End: Granite Mountain trailhead
Miles: 8.12
Elevation gain/loss: 3619′
I met up with my friend Rin at the trailhead; we know each other from overlapping one day on the PCT in Washington in 2020 and have kept in contact since! It was great to meet up in person to spend some time together. Rin was very tired from a weekend of climbing, so we took it nice and easy, taking our time on the ascent. All of the plants were beginning to turn yellow, orange, and fiery red, so there were lots of opportunites for great photos. The air quality was affected by the local fires, but it never was worse than ~50-60 AQI so it was noticable but manageable. Before our hike, I’d picked up sandwiches and drinks, and at the summit tower, we sat, ate, and chatted for a while before heading back down. We made it to the parking lot right around sunset, and lingered for a bit before going our separate ways.
