Start/End: Starr King Trailhead
Miles: 6.88
Elevation Gain/Loss: 2986′
Peaks: Starr King, Waumbek
After a more relaxed morning after a late night, I made it to the trailhead around 9:15am, despite it being unplowed. I was the second car, with another car arriving right after me. I started out from the TH at 9:30am and methodically made my way up the moderate climb to Starr King. It was nice to have a set of tracks to follow, and the wind had died down, with temps in the high 20s/low 30s. I encountered the aggressive greyjays of Starr King, and they’ve been fed by so many people that one of them landed on my empty outstretched hand. I was attacked and scratched by one of them last year when I didn’t feed it, which has made me ardently LNT about wildlife, especially cute birds. It was nice to have a quiet, chill hike to balance out yesterday. I finished by 1:30pm and was glad to head home a bit earlier than expected.
