Miles: 8.5
Start/End: Carter-Moriah TH
Elevation gain/loss: 3714′
Peaks: Surprise, Moriah
For this ascent, I wore my snowshoes both for the temperatures (low 40s in the valley) and to prevent straining my heel further. The temperatures dropped by ~20 degrees during my hike, and the wind was blowing the light snow into my face. Despite that, I made good time on the ascent. Round trip, it took me just under 4 hours, with no views at the top. I hustled back down, and then headed to Pinkham Notch for a shower and to prep my hot water for the next day.
