After completing the Ultra Tour version of the Great Range Traverse the weekend before, my body was very tired but I really wanted to get outside and try out a new route. I’d found this route back in August, when I was exploring the FKT map looking for fun things nearby. This route was shorter than most and almost entirely on gravel and smooth doubletrack.
It was a weekend full of rain but the temperatures were warm enough that the rain didn’t bother me. I did pick the wrong direction on a few of the road splits, adding 0.3mi, but it was an interesting run. Contrary to the route’s description, the gates were open and people were driving along the dirt roads so I had to keep an eye out for vehicles as I ran. I also couldn’t find an established trail to match the GPX track around the Barre Falls Dam and lost time and got my feet muddy trying to figure out where each trail actually went and which direction I was trying to go.
Overall, it was an interesting course and I’m looking forward to coming back to explore these gravel roads and put down a quicker time with better weather and fresher legs.
