The summer parking lot was still accessible, though the potholes were deep. With an afternoon start, I made good use of the packed trails and sunlight and hurried up to the summit of Starr King, arriving in time to catch some sunset light on the Presidential Range. I then headed over to Waumbek in the dying light, and went beyond the summit to get to the clearing for another viewpoint. Then I headed back the way I’d come, delighting in fast conditions that were soft on my joints.
