After a rough night with ~4 hours interrupted sleep, I started out at 5am. I luckily made it clear of Lafayette and above treeline travel before the wind started whipping around and rain started to fall.
This then became an exercise in masochism, fatigue resistance, and risk tolerance. Wet rock made for slower going, and the 50+ MPH wind made for some gnarly windchill when soaking wet. Everything wets out with 11+ hours of driving rain.
In some sections, I went as fast as I could in an effort to warm my core temperature and stave off hypothermia. Temps were 45-55. Also, the Lincoln Woods exit was rough, flooded with 3″ water. I made it back to my car at 9pm.
Mt Washington recorded 0.61″ rain, 41 MPH average wind speed, and 91 MPH gusts. But I achieved something I’d wanted for a while – a back-to-back Presi Traverse and Pemi Loop!
