Summits: Owl’s Head
Start/Finish: Lincoln Woods TH (biked there from Big Rock CG)
Miles: 15.65
Elevation gain/loss: 3238′
With hot and humid conditions forecasted, along with risks of afternoon thunderstorms, I decided a woods walk alongside a river sounded perfect. After getting up early, I hopped on my bike and rode the 2 miles from Big Rock Campground down the Kanc to Lincoln Woods.
I tied my bike up and headed out by 6:45am. I kept a steady pace, while also stopping 2-3 times to filter cold stream water. I was the first person to the summit and enjoyed my speed, except for when I stepped on a small rock I didn’t see, twisted my right ankle, and fell down hard. I was able to walk it off, but it wasn’t happy.
I arrived back at the Pemi River Bridge right around 1pm. Toby was already there waiting for me, soaking in the cold water. I joined him and we had a nice relaxing afternoon and evening together, though the humidity never broke and the temperature didn’t drop at night which made for bad sleep.
