Start: tentsite at Isolation Trail and Broad Brook Trail intersection
End: Appalachia trailhead
Mileage: 12.4
Elevation gain/loss: 4006’/6447′
I was up by 5:15am and headed out at 5:50am. I climbed up Davis Path towards Boott Spur. I made the intersection with the Glen Boulder trail by 7:10am; however, just a bit before that, the trail emerged from the treeline and the wind hit me hard. The wind started by blowing around 45 MPH, and would work itself into a full frenzy with 75 MPH winds for a few minutes at a time. Wind at that speed is almost a physical force, nearly knocking me over countless time. I had to walk at a diagonal to continue straight!

I made Boott Spur and headed across the lawn cutoff, towards the top of Tuckerman Ravine. I passed the intersection with Lions Head by 8am and hit the summit by 8:20am, where I took a break in the lee of the visitors center, which wasn’t open yet.

I followed the AT around Jefferson until I could take the Randolph Path to Grey Knob Trail to start my descent. Grey Knob trail was very overgrown and made for slower going. I passed by both RMC huts by 12:15pm and continued to descend. Following Randolph Path, Short Line trail, and Airline trail, I arrived back at my car by 1:45pm, where someone had left me two PBRs on my windshield!
