We started out from Ferncroft trailhead at 7:45am, after waking up at 6am to drive the 1.5 hours to the trailhead. We arrived just in time, because within 10 minutes of our arrival at the trailhead, all but maybe 2 legal parking spots were full. We partook of the trailhead privy before we headed out into the cloudy and damp weather. The trees and clouds dripped water on us for the majority of the day, until perhaps 2pm. We had no views from either peak, and the rock ledges on Whiteface were a bit intimidating, though we managed it well enough. On the way up Passaconaway, we made the mistake of taking the right-hand fork to ascend, which was a very steep, very rocky way to go about it. We took the left-hand fork on the way back down. Of course, once we’d descended all of the rocky terrain and finally hit smooth dirt trail, we started seeing blue sky and the sun eventually came out, giving us a bit of afternoon sunshine as we got back to the car at 3:45pm.
