I was awake at 4:45 this morning, and on trail by 5:30am. Around 6:30am, while climbing above a torn-out tree in the middle of the trail, the ground gave away and I fell, tumbling down the hill. I impacted twice, ending up facedown in a pricker bush, my left arm pinned underneath me on top of a rock. I was lucky, and didn’t sustain any serious injuries. I got dirt in my hair, scratched my knees and thighs bloody, and have a substantial bruise on my arm, but otherwise was unhurt. The scratches have proven to be the most annoying injury so far, and stung horribly the first time I dripped sweat into them.
I ate dinner in the mid afternoon, under some shade, though it was hard to get down. My body doesn’t like eating in the heat. I set up camp at 7pm. I tried sleeping under my tarp to see if it was warmer and I might sleep deeper, and found it very annoying because I couldn’t sit up or use the sides of my sleeping area. I’ll have to play around with it.
Over the course of the day, I only saw 2 dirt bikers and three car campers, all from a distance. No other hikers yet, just footprints.
