Miles: 9.74
Start/End: winter lot across from Zealand Rd
Elevation gain/loss: 2825′
Peaks: Hale
After hiking the Kinsmans and Cannon, I found myself with plenty of daylight left. After so much time in the Adirondacks, it felt like a painfully short and incomplete day. So I drove over to Zealand Rd and started from the winter trailhead by 1:15pm and was back to my car by 5pm. The road was packed down and despite warming temperatures, the snow was stable enough to exclusively use traction. During my descent of Cannon, I’d realized that my Microspikes were done providing any traction, so for this hike I broke out my new Exospikes and they delivered nicely. It was a joy to check off a number of peaks and still be done before sunset!
