After such a long day yesterday and evening plans at home, I went with a shorter hike today. I started from the trailhead right at 9am, with 4 cars already in the Starr King summer lot. I was delighted to find that the first 2 miles were without a hint of snow, and until the top of Starr King, the trail’s snow was just a packed thin sheet of ice. Between Starr King and Waumbek, there was some mostly stable and packed snow. I only postholed in the knee-deep snow once or twice when I strayed off of the packed path. It was a pleasantly quick hike in warm temperatures with blue skies!
