I was up at 5:45, and out by 6:30am. As I hiked, I met No Breaks, who I know from IG. It was great to see a familiar face.
It was a long day, with beautiful lakes, hot sun, and sections of trail that were pretty exposed. Towards the end of my day, I saw a ~24-inch rattlesnake in the middle of the trail – it went off the trail pretty easy with minimal encouragement on my part.
I was into camp by 8pm. I was surprised to find a tent set up nearby. The tent belonged to Emily, a 2021 SOBO hiker who was stopped by the fires. She’s section hiking now; and is a middle school language arts teacher from Dallas TX.
