Elevation gain/loss: 8363’/7178′
I was up at 5:30, and Kellyfish took me back to trail by 6:15. I had a nice long climb in the morning while it was still cool.
When I was at the hostel, I met Givener, Marlin, and Weed Snob. Givener and Weed Snob are from the same area outside of Ottawa, but they didn’t know each other until yesterday.
I chatted with Odysseus, Mooch, Blister Queen at Trough Creek while I filled up my water.
I saw another ~24″ rattlesnake and a ton of poison oak, both of which I managed to avoid. At the top of the biggest climb, I met a big tramily who were just finding out they had a COVID outbreak; I kept my distance and offered a few possibilities for places to stay in Dunsmuir/Shasta.
Thr high was 93, and it was close to 100 in the sun. I had two gushing bloody noses from the intense dry heat.
I made it to a campsite in a cool gulch by a creek by 8:15pm. Other people reported a rambunctious deer, but I didn’t have any issues.
