Start: Carson Pass
End: campsite 1.5mi south of Ebbits Pass
Miles: 35.8
Elevation gain/loss: 6378’/6220′
I was awake at 3:30am and got dropped off on trail at 5:45am by my friend from Reno. There are 3 fires around Mariposa near Yosemite and there’s a lot of smoke being produced, some of which finds its way to the trail. I was very nervous about it, but so far, it’s been going okay.
I hid my bear canister past the parking lot and then did a 6-mile out and back to tag the TRT intersection, and then headed south. I did 9 miles by 9am and 21 by 2pm. I made my planned campsite by 5:30pm, so I kept moving forward. The smoke wasn’t too bad, particularly in the afternoon, and so I wanted to make solid miles while the air quality was good. I arrived at camp at 8pm, set up my tent, and placed my bear canister within view of my tent. Here’s to hoping the fires and smoke settle down soon.
